The past few years have seen so-called “sad bops” take over the airwaves maximalist pop once dominated. One artist who has benefited from this transition is Troye Sivan, who has made most of his career on melancholy dance tracks (i.e. “Wild,” “Plum”), with very few misfires. He hits his mark once again in his assist on Lauv’s “i’m so tired…” The dance-y downer is the perfect song for the two singers to flex their limited ranges in suitable fashion.

Lauv dives headfirst into the chorus seven seconds in, exclaiming his distaste for love songs after the demise of his relationship. The first verse makes reference to his loved-up hit — “I Like Me Better” — with the lyric “everybody around me is falling in love to our song;” in the midst of his current situation, the track is just a painful reminder of what was. Sivan’s verse finds him sexing the pain away before joining Lauv in the remaining choruses to a satisfying blending of voices. For its short runtime, “i’m so tired…” is exceedingly repetitive, but serves its purpose just as beautifully as it can be expected to.
